Paul Gottfried Hoffmann was born the son of Christian Friedrich Hoffmann (excise inspector in Düben; Thomasschule 1715?). He enrolled at the Thomasschule in Leipzig on June 20, 1746; and studied there from 1746 to 1749. He died as died as an alumnus. Although he attended the Thomasschule during J.S. Bach's tenure, it is not known if he actually studied with him. His elder brother, Christian Friedrich Hoffmann (1730-unknown), was also a Thomaner (1744-1752). |
