Johann Samuel Hebenstreit was born to Pastor in the village of Kleinjena. He enrolled at the Thomasschule in Leipzig on July 4, 1726; and studied there from 1726 to 1732, since May 6, 1726 already as external. Although he attended the Thomasschule during J.S. Bach's tenure, it is not known if he actually studied with him. J.S. Bach reported (1730): “incompetent, not at all musical”. |
