Died: January 1769 (buried: January 5, 1769) - Dresden, Saxony, Germany |
Christian Heinrich Grabner was a German organist. He was born the son of Johann Heinrich Gräbner (c1665-1739; organist and organ maker in Dresden). He studied with J.S. Bach in Leipzig in 1724-1726. c1726-1732 he was representative organist at the Sophienkirche in Dresden; c1729-1732 also representative organist at the Kreuzkirche in Dresden. In 1733 he applied unsuccessfully for the post of organist at the Sophienkirche, Dresden (the appointment went to J.S. Bach's eldest son, Wilhelm Friedemann Bach). From 1733 he assisted his father Johann Heinrich Gräbner, who was organist at the Frauenkirche in Dresden, and in 1739 he succeeded him there. From 1742 he was organist at the Kreuzkirche.
The studies with J.S. Bach were mentioned several times by Christian Heinrich himself and by his father in various applications for Dresden organist positions (1727-1733). According to these statements, the training in Leipzig took place in the period of two years before 1727, presumably before taking over the agency services at the Sophienkirche in Dresden.
