Gottlieb Benjamin Geier (Kantor, Organ, Bach’s Pupil)

Born: May 1710 (baptised: May 23, 1710) - Eisleben, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany
Died: May 1762 (buried: May 17, 1762) - Eisleben, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany

Gottlieb Benjamin Geier [Geierus] was a German church musician. He was born the son of Benjamin Geier (organist in Eisleben); and studied with his father and the Kantor Wiemer in Eisleben. He studied theology at the Univesity of Leipzig (enrollment on May 19, 1732), and was also a pupil of J.S. Bach in Leipzig between 1732 and 1737. After his studies, he worked in his native town of Eisleben: from 1737/1738 as Kantor and organist at the Annenkirche (until 1739 as a substitute); from 17411 (or 17552) as Kantor at the Nikolaikirche; and from 1755 as Sextus at the Gymnasium.

Gottlieb Benjamin Geier mentioned his lessons with J.S. Bach in connection with an application in Eisleben (probably regarding the Nikolaikantorat 1739).
