Christian Gottlob Fleckeisen was born the son Gottfried Fleckeisen (Kantor, Thomasschule 1688–1697). He enrolled at the Thomasschule in Leipzig on July 20, 1736; studied there from 1736 to 1745, since March 12, 1736 already as external; and at Universität Leipzig from 1744. His brother, Gottfried Benjamin Fleckeisen (1719-1789) was also Thomaner (1732-1744).
Three J.S. Bach manuscripts from 1743, 1745 and 1748 were recently published by Dr. Andreas Glöckner from the Bach-Archiv Leipzig discovered while researching music maintenance at the Universitätskirche St. Pauli in the University Archives. These are certificates that J.S. Bach personally issued for three of his prefects. With J.S. Bach's recommendation, the recipients of the certificates applied for a four- to five-year scholarship to the Universität Leipzig. The establishment of such a scholarship was previously unknown to Bach research, as was J.S. Bach's participation in the awarding of the "Hammerischen Stipendiums" (Hammerische Scholarship), which made it possible for poor Thomasschule students to study at university after they had finished school. J.S. Bach issued the other two certificates for his students Christian Gottlob Fleckeisen (April 13, 1745) and Johann Wilhelm Cunis (March 12, 1748). During the Bachfest Leipzig in June 2009, Dr. Andreas Glöckner reported in detail on the sources discovered in the university archive in the course of his lecture "The Music Care at the Leipzig University at the Time of Bach's New Documents and Findings". |
