German musicologist and composer, Hermann (Robert) Erpf, studied with Wolfrem in Heidelberg (1909-1911) and with Riemann at the University of Leipzig (Ph.D., 1913, with the dissertation Der Begriff der musikalischen Form; published in Stuttgart, 1914).
Hermann Erpf taught at Pforzheim from 1919 to 1923) and at the University of Freiburg am Breisgau from 1923 to 1925. He was assistant director at the Academy of Speech and Music in Münster from 1925 to 1927, and was in charge of the Folkwangschule in Essen from 1927 to 1943. From 1943 to 1945, and again from 1952 to 1956, he was director of the Hochschule für Musik in Stuttgart.
Hermann Erpf composed choral pieces, chamber music, and songs. |
