Emanuel [Immanuel] Crell was born to Peter Crell (scorer at Ranstädter Tor). He enrolled at the Thomasschule in Leipzig on December 23, 1724 and studied there from 1724 to 1732; and at Universität Leipzig in 1731. Although he attended the Thomasschule during 's tenure, it is not known if he actually studied with him. J.S. Bach reported (1730) “incompetent, not at all musical”. |
