Miriam Carpinetti (Composer)

Born: September 12, 1954 - Campinas, Sao Paulo, Brazil

The Brazilian composer, Miriam Emerick de Souza Carpinetti, obtained her Bachelor of Music degree in Piano from the Instituto Musical de Sao Paulo (IMSP) under the guidance Lina Pires de Campos (1974-1978); her Bachelor of Music degree in Singing from the Instituto Musical de Sao Paulo (IMSP) under the guidance of Ula Wolf (1978-1980); her Bachelor of Music degree in organ from the Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (UNESP) under the guidance of José Luis de Aquino (1989-1994). She made Postgraduate degree in Teacher Training in Brazilian Music at Universidade Anhembi Morumbi (UAM) under the guidance of Marli Batista Ávila (2003-2004); and obtained her Mater of Music dregree from the Music Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP) under the guidance of Edmundo Pacheco Hora (2006-2008). Ph.D. discontinued in 2015 in Doutorado em Música. She begon studies for PhD degree in Music at Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP) under the guidance of Denise Hortência Garcia, Brasil, but interuupted in 2015. She studied composition (H. J. Koellreutter, Osvaldo Lacerda), harpsichord (Edmundo Hora), musicalization (Sociedade Kodály do Brasil).

Miriam Carpinetti conducted the Cantares Women's Choir of the Vila Mariana Presbyterian Church, the United Presbyterian Church, the Central Bank and Xerox do Brasil. Former president and former secretary of the Brazilian Association of Organists (served on the board from 2005 to 2016). She was a member of the Editorial Board of Caixa Expressiva (Journal of the Brazilian Association of Organists, the only regular publication on organ activity in South America). Editor-in-chief of the TeMA Newsletter of the Brazilian Association of Music Theory and Analysis (ISSN 2675-9691). Professor on the Postgraduate, Bachelor's and Undergraduate courses at the Mozarteum College - FAMOSP. Finalist in the International Composition Competition for Solo Organ promoted by The Orgelbüchlein Project and the Royal College of Organists (London, 2017). She has a prelude published in the anthology "The Oxford Book of Organ Music by Women Composers"; published by Oxford University Press. Her works have been performed in Brazil, the USA and Europe. She currently lives in São Paulo, Brazil.
