Miriam Carpinetti - Short Biography

Works

Organ

“The Orgelbüchlein Project” (OBP) - A major international composition project that completes J.S. Bach's Orgelbüchlein (Little Organ Book).

The Homepage of OBP shows an overview of the project and the instructions given to composers to create new works to be inserted into J.S. Bach's Orgelbüchlein, generating a version with all the chorales he initially listed.

O Herre Gott dein göttlich Wort, was the first choral prelude Miriam Carpinetti sent and was published in OBP as OBP: Chorale 60. It was recorded by Carson Cooman (available on YouTube) and performed in church services and concerts in several countries.

Erbarme dich meine, the second prelude M. Carpinetti submitted to the project, has had an even more resounding reception. After being published on in OBP as OBP: Chorale 68, it was also published by OUP Oxford Book of organ music by women OUP on p.40. Carson Cooman recorded this prelude (availabled on YouTube), and it has been played in many church services and concerts in Brazil and the Northern Hemisphere.

Ein feste Burg, was M. Carpinetti's third OBP published as OBP: Chorale 116. Like the previous ones, this prelude has been enthusiastically received and has already been played in several countries in worship by Michael Rees (YouTube, September 2022) and in concert by Alexandre Rachid (YouTube, April 2020).

Es spricht der Unweisen Mund wohl, initially published on the Project page, was removed from the page when M. Carpinetti agreed to take part in the Project's Composition Competition for Organ Solo promoted by The Orgelbüchlein Project and the Royal College of Organists. M. Carpinetti was one of the ten finalists in this competition Nicholas Morris plays Es spricht der Unweisen Mund wohl (March 2022). According to the curator of the OBP, “In the end, the ten shortlisted compositions were the ones deemed to have been the most successful in reflecting the ethos of Bach’s Orgelbüchlein for the modern age.” After that, she presented an article with some information about the creative process of this prelude Creative Process (Academia.edu).

Christus der ist mein Leben, was also approved under the OBP. In addition to the prelude, M. Carpinetti later added a Toccata, and both were presented in worship by Alexandra Fol (YouTube, October 2024) and concert by Benedito Rosa Pereira (YouTube, June 2023).

Piano

From a very young age M. Carpinetti played J.S. Bach on the piano daily, especially the Well-Tempered Harpsichord and the Inventions. This led M. Carpinetti to include among her didactic compositions a prelude (YouTube, played by Helber Fernandes Ribeiro on piano, January 2025) inspired and based on J.S. Bach's Prelude in C major, BWV 939.
