Friedrich [Fridericus] Ackermann was born to Johann Friedrich Ackermann (Rector of Thomasschule in Leipzig: 1689-1694). He enrolled at the Thomasschule on May 18, 1720; studied there from 1720 to 1727; and at Universität Leipzig from 1727. Although he attended the Thomasschule during J.S. Bach's tenure, it is not known if he actually studied with him. He became Magister (1731), Baccalaureus of Medicine (1742), public assistance doctor Leipzig (1746), doctor of medicine (1748), doctor at the Leipzig Alms Office (1748). His younger brother, Johann Friedrich Ackermann (1726-1804), was also Thomaner (1740-1747).
