History & Mission: |
J.S. Bach has been the main composer in the activity of La Capilla Real de Madrid. In the 1999-2000 season it performed a series of ten concerts under the sponsorship of the Madrid Region. Programmes like St. John Passion, the Christmas Oratory, the Mass in B minor, his Cantatas and Motets, were then heard by more than 5,000 people who met for the 250th anniversary celebration of the Maestro Kantor.
A few years later, in 2004, La Capilla Real de Madrid started a huge project: to perform and conduct as the host ensemble the Series of Complete Cantatas by J.S. Bach (Ciclo Cantatas de Bach en Madrid) in more than 30 churches of Madrid. In this project, which will finish next December, 150 concerts will have been performed and 200 Cantatas sung including all his Oratories, Masses, Motets and Passions and would have welcomed more than 70,000 people.
The scope of these events, their impact and success, added to the experience acquired invites La Capilla Real de Madrid to continue this activity by creating the Círculo Bach; a compendium of activities (Concerts, chats, conferences, courses and contests) to be developed in the Círculo de Bellas Artes de Madrid and designed for a wide range of audiences, from the oldest to the youngest, whose aim is the performance, study and dissemination of the work of Johann Sebastian Bach. |
