István Zámbó (Choral Conductor)

Born: Hungary

The Hungarian coral conductor, István Zámbó, was a Liszt Prize winner in 1967. In 1957 he founded the Veszprém Mixed Chorus and has been Music Director of the ensemble ever since. He conducted series of first performances in Hungary, such as M.A. Charpentier’s Te Deum, the Magnificat by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach or the works by Zsolt Durkó and Kamilló Lendvay. Chorus and conductor greatly contributed to the reputation of Hungary’s choral art by interpreting the outstanding pieces of the Hungarian choral repertoire.
