The American bass-baritone, Jason Zacher, obtained his Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from Montclair State University (2015); and his Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance. from the University of Houston (2017-2019). He currently studies with Timothy Jones and is a former student of Karen Driscoll. He was Apprentice Artist at Respiro Opera (2018); Apprentice Artist at Opera Neo (2018-2019); Resident Artist at Opera in the Heights (August 2019-2020); and Apprentice Artist at Des Moines Metro Opera (2020-2021). Awards & Honors include: New Jersey Chapter Winner at Dorothy Lincoln-Smith Classical Voice Competition (2018/2019/2020); Third Place | Tier Ii at James Toland Vocal Arts Inc. (2019); Finalist at Dallas Opera Guild Biennial Lone Star Vocal Competition (2020).
Jason Zacher is is quickly gaining attention on a national level as a rising new talent and a versatile performer. Most recently, he was featured making his company debut with Ars Lyrica Houston in their all-J.S. Bach program titled “Conflict & Concord”, as well as performing as bass soloist in George Frideric Handel's Messiah with Chapelwood United Methodist Church. This coming Spring (2021), he will be returning to Opera in the Heights. While there he will perform the title character in W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro, as well as Raimondo in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor. Shortly following this, Jason will return to Des Moines Metro Opera. Here he will cover the role of Jupiter in Rameau’s Platée for their upcoming 2021 Summer Festival season.
Some of Jason Zacher's notable opera performance credits include Angelotti in Tosca, Prince Gremin in Eugene Onegin, Alidoro in La Cenerentola, Oliver Jordan in Dinner at Eight, the title role in Don Pasquale, and William Jennings Bryan in The Ballad of Baby Doe. He is also a much in demand interpreter of contemporary opera, and has created roles in several world premieres, notably: Male Admirer in Karim Al-Zand’s The Leader, Artie in Anthony Brandt’s Kassandra, and Sir Oliver in Robert Nelson’s The School for Scandal.
Equally at home on the concert stage, Jason Zacher has performed the bass solos in Felix Mendelssohn’s St. Paul, W.A. Mozart's Coronation Mass, as well as Benjamin Britten’s Rejoice in the Lamb with Montclair State University’s Vocal Accord.
Jason Zacher presently resides in the Houston area where he is also a passionate music educator. He teaches music and drama at The Westview School (since August 2019), a school specializing in educating high-functioning children with Autism Spectrum Disorder as well as teaching private voice and piano lessons. |
