The English tenor, Alexander Basil Young, won a scholarship to the Royal College of Music in London after the World War II, and developed his art further in Naples and Vienna.
Alexander Young made his debut at the Edinburgu Festival in 1950. He won an international reputation in opera as well as oratorio and art song, and his repertory is extraordinary wide, going from George Frideric Handel, Gluck, W.A. Mozart and Haydn to Richard Strauss and Igor Stravinsky. As well as a familiar figure at the great festivals and with the opera companies of Great Britain, he has sung with huge success in the USA, Holland, Germany, Austria, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Spain, Yugoslavia, France and Switzerland. His vocal attainments are united with the highest artistry, and his reputation rests on outstanding stylistic gifts and skill in characterization. |
