The Swiss tenor, Simon Witzig, studied until 2005 at the Musikhochschule Zürich with the tenor Paul Steiner and garduated with the Concert and Opera Diploma. He also was a member of the Swiss Opera Studio in Biel and continued his studies at the Hochschule der Künste Bern. Currently, he works with the American tenor Scot Weir.
Simon Witzig’s repertoire ranges from Heinrich Schütz to contemporary music, with the main focus on the various roles of the Evangelists and the Romantic Lieder and oratorio works. His recent performances include inter alia at the Offenbach Festival on Lake Geneva or at the Lucerne Festival 2005, during which he worked together with various instrumental ensembles (such as the Arsatius Consort, Munich, Germany). Furthermore, in the 2004-2005 season the lyric tenor was engaged at the Städtebund-Theater Biel-Solothurn, where he sang his first leading role in the staged performance of Haydn's Schöpfung. This was followed by participation in productions with works like Die Fledermaus, Il mondo della luna, Le nozze di Figaro, King Arthur, etc. Simon Witzig can be heard in Switzerland and in neighboring countries in works as Puccini's Messa di Gloria, J.S. Bach's Johannes-Passion (BWV 245), Haydn's Schöpfung, Orff's Carmina Burana and Franz Liszt's Christus, etc. |
