The American soprano, Alexandra Whitfield, earned her Bachelor’s degree in mathematics and music at Georgetown University and received her Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the Longy School of Music of Bard College in May 2014. At Longy, she was the only vocalist ever to be awarded the Roman Totenberg Award for stellar academic and artistic achievement and deep commitment to the art of music (2013). Always bringing graceful artistry to her performances, she also received second place in NEMPAC’s vocal competition, was a prize winner in the Massachusetts bi-annual NATS competition and was a winner in the 2013 Concerto Competition at Longy. She and has studied with Karyl Ryczek for four years and currently studies with Frank Kelley.
Alexandra Whitfield performs around the Boston area as a soloist, educator and chorister. She possesses an agile voice lending to styles ranging from Baroque to contemporary American art songs. Particularly passionate about art songs, she presents recitals in the Boston area, performs for assisted living facilities, and premiered some commissioned works in 2014. She has participated in various master-classes and festivals including and involving Sondra Kelly, Mirror Visions Ensemble, the Boston Early Music Festival, the Norfolk Summer Music Festival and the Franz Schubert Institut in Vienna Austria. She has been a member of Cantata Singers for three years. She has appeared with Cantata Singers as a soloist in Herbert Howells’ Requiem, and at last year’s Chamber Series, singing Felix Mendelssohn and Monteverdi. Other recent engagements have included soloing in Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem, and working with the Boston Ballet, Classroom Cantatas, the Treble Chorus of New England, and the Boston Early Music Festival. |
