Fritz Weisse (Conductor)

Born: Witzschdorf in the Erzgebirge, Saxony, Germany

The German conductor, Fritz Weisse, studied church music at the Kirchenmusikschule Berlin-Spandau and conducting at the Hochshcule für Musik Berlin. During this study he was appointed asa Director of the Berliner Konzert-Chor. He conducted over 200 concerts at the Philharmonie, mostly with famous orchestras including the Berliner Philharmoniker, Radio-Symphonie-Orchester-Berlin and Staatskapelle Berlin.

Ee enriched his choral-symphonic repertoire with 20 performances of opera concertante, the SFB and RIAS were recorded in the Philharmonie and transmitted by several stations of the ARD. On Ariola appeared Rienzi by R. Wagner. The ZDF produced under his direction with the Radio-Symphonie-Orchester-Berlin, Ein Lobgesang by Felix Mendelssohn. He directed more than 11,000 listeners in several concerts at the Berliner Waldbühne. Numerous guest appearances in the most famous concert halls in the world (London’s Royal Festival Hall, New York’s Carnegie Hall, Washington’s Kennedy Center) brought him international success. The highlights include concerts with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, the BSO at the Teatro Colon, Buenos Aires, the Rundfunkorchester Leipzig at the Gewandhaus.

With the Bach-Solisten Berlin Fritz Weisse performed J.S. Bach’s B minor Mass (BWV 232) at the Philharmonie, with 18 singers, J.S. Bach's Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244) with 24 singers - in accordance with the premiere, of the Bach-Solisten Berlin, including at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris. The orchestral part were played by the Drottningholm Baroque Orchestra, Deutsche Händel-Solisten, and Collegium Aureum.

As founder of the Bundeswettbewerbs Gesang (National Singing Competition) and as a long-time chairman of the jury, Fritz Weisse promotes young German singers In recognition of his services to the cultural life of Berlin and in particular his commitment to young artists, he received the Order of Merit in 1983. In December 1989, he founded in Leipzig the Deutsche Kammerorchester with young musicians from East and West. He led this ensemble at Konzerthaus Berlin and the Philharmonie in its own concert series with extraordinary successes. With guest performances in Warsaw, Jakarta, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, Prague, Beijing and Shanghai Festival the orchestra and the conductor reaped by the international media highly acclaimed. On October 3, 1990 he conducted the Staatsakt for the reunification of the Federal Republic of Germany before the Reichstag, the national anthem.

Fritz Weisse served as Board Member of the Association of Church Musicians in Berlin (1965-1969); 1st Chairman of the National Association VDMK Berlin (1968-1980); Member of the jury music competition of the DMR (1975-1980); Technical Committee Chairman of the National Singing Competition in Berlin (1966-1982); Artistic Director of the Bach-Tage Berlin (1970-1985); Member of the leadership of the Studio Neue Musik Berlin (1972-1985).

Since 2005 Fritz Weisse is working on the following topics: Schöpfungsimmanente, reine Intervalle und rhetorisch - inegales Musizieren bedingen sich gegenseitig. The emporelationen in J.S. Bach - The Innere Logik der Harmonie in music and architecture.
