Marc Webster (Bass)

Born: USA

The American bass, Marc Webster, received his Bachelor of Music degree from Ithaca College; Masters of Music degree from The Eastman School of Music; Artist Diploma from the The Juilliard School of Music in New York. Currently he studies for D.M.A. at the Eastman School of Music. He has studied with with Carol Webber and Robert C. White, and has coached with Warren Jones, Martin Katz, Renata Scotto, Dolora Zajik, Håkan Hagegård, Jane Eaglen, Sherri Greenawald, Stephen Wadsworth, Nico Castel, Margo Garrett, Brian Zeger, Diane Richardson, Denise Massé, Corradina Caporello, Benton Hess.

Marc Webster was the recipient of the Lynne Clark Memorial Prize for winning first place in the Friends of Eastman Opera Competition in 2004, and was the first prize winner in the Jessie Kneisel Lieder competition in 2006. He was also the recent recipient of an Encouragement Award from The Metropolitan Opera National Council in the Four City District. In April 2006, he performed Opus 51 by Strauss with the Eastman Orchestra as winner of the Eastman Concerto Competition.

Marc Webster is a current member of the Juilliard Opera Center Studio. In November 2006 he made his Juilliard debut as Mars in Orphee aux Enfers. He just completed a residency with the Florida Grand Opera Studio, where he performed the role of Don Alfonso in W.A. Mozart's Cosi fan Tutte. He began another residency with Seattle Opera Studio in February 2007, where he sang the role of Pistola in Falstaff. Last summer (2006) he performed scenes from I Puritani (Sir Giorgio) with the Merola Opera Program at the San Francisco Opera Center. While at Eastman, he performed the roles of Seneca in L’incoranazione di Poppea, Sarastro in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Rambaldo in La Rondine, and Siroco in L’Etoile.

Operatic performances have been with The Juilliard Opera Center, Wolf Trap Opera, Seattle Opera Studio, Florida Grand Opera Studio, San Francisco Opera Merola Studio, and Eastman Opera Theater. Favourite opera roles include Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte, Tutor in Le Comte Ory, Rambaldo in La Rondine, Seneca in L’incoronazione di Poppea, Pistola in Falstaff, Sir Giorgio in I Puritani, and Osmin in W.A. Mozart's Die Entführung aus dem Serail. Marc Webster performed the role of Colas in W.A. Mozart's Bastien und Bastienne with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra in 2006. In summer 2007 he became a resident artist with the Wolf Trap Opera Company. Recent operatic engagements include the role of Sarastro at Wolf Trap Opera, excerpts from the role of Don Alfonso with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra.

Marc Webster is an active recitalist and has recently performed with The New York Festival of Song with Stephen Blier, the Marilyn Horne Foundation The Song Continues series in Weill Hall, and his Alice Tully Hall debut as bass soloist in J.S. Bach’s BWV 4 with the Juilliard Choral Union & Juilliard Chamber Orchestra (2007). He sang the role of Jesus in J.S. Bach’s St. John Passion (BWV 245) and Pater Profundis in Robert Schumann's Szenen aus Goethe’s Faust with the Eastman Symphony Orchestra; and was the bass soloist in J.S. Bach’s St. Matthew Passion (BWV 244) with the Jacksonville Symphony. He recently performed the bass solos in W.A. Mozart's Requiem, George Frideric Handel's Messiah, J.S. Bach's Magnificat (BWV 243) and L.v. Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9. Other recent oratorio performances were with the Colonial Symphony, Jacksonville Symphony, Buffalo Philharmonic, Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, and Boston Chamber Orchestra at Trinity Cathedral.
