The Swiss baritone and choral conductor, Jean-Luc Waeber, studied at the Conservatoire de Fribourg and obtained a diploma in music education and singing in 2002. It is within the framework of this training that he studied piano, cello, choral conducting and singing. In 2005, he completed his singing certificate in the class of Marie-Françoise Schuwey before joining Michel Brodard's professional class at the Haute Ecole de Musique de Lucerne et Lausanne (Fribourg site), where he obtained his singing teaching diploma. in June 2009. He then perfected his skills with Professor Scot Weir and Siegfried Lorenz in Berlin.
Jean-Luc Waeber regularly sings as a soloist or chorister in various projects of the Ensemble Orlando Fribourg (Director: Laurent Gendre) as well as the Ensemble Vocal de Lausanne (Directors: Michel Corboz and Guillaume Tourniaire), which allows him to perform at various festivals in Switzerland and abroad. Granting a privileged place to the oratorio repertoire of which he sang the main works (from the Renaissance to 20th century music), he also willingly performs in recital, notably in Robert Schumann's Kernerlieder, Johannes Brahms' Vier ernste Gesänge or Berlioz' Les Nuits d’été.
On stage, Jean-Luc Waeber performed among others the roles of De Verbois in André Messager's opera Fortunio in 2008 and of Cesare in Donizetti's Viva la Mamma in 2012 at the Opéra de Fribourg. He participated in the revival of this opera in 2014 at the Opéra de Metz. He also played Masetto in W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni. But it is with the Opéra à Bretelles (quartet of singers and accordion) that he most often performs in opera and operetta shows.
Also passionate about choral and orchestral conducting, Jean-Luc Waeber was a regular student at the Fondation des Ateliers de direction d’orchestre - Eric Bauer in Geneva from 1998 to 2002. During this period, he was fortunate to be able to regularly conduct various instrumental groups. He is currently director of the Chœur paroissial d’Ecuvillens-Posieux and took over the direction of the Chœur de l’Université and Jeunesses Musicales de Fribourg from the 2014-2015 season. He currently directs the Chœur de l’Université and Jeunesses Musicales de Friborg as well as the Ensemble Vocal La Cantilène and teaches singing at the Conservatoire de Fribourg. |
