The Swiss conductor, Laurent Gendre, acquired piano-teacher’s diploma at Fribourg Conservatory and pursued his arts studies at the university of the same town. He then studied conducting and theory at the Musikhochschule in Basle and at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. He obtained his orchestral directing diploma with the Basle Radio Symphony Orchestra. Twice he won the Conductor's Study Prize awarded by the Swiss Musicians Association and went on to pursue his studies in Germany and Austria.
Laurent Gendre has conducted L'Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, the Bienne Symphony Orchestra, the Latvian National Orchestra, the Fribourg Youth Orchestra and the Neuchâtel Chamber Orchestra as well as the Baroque orchestras Die Freitagsakademie and Capriccio Basel.
Laurent Gendre is Musical Director of the Fribourg Opera, the Orchestra of the City of Thun and the Bern Oratorio Choir. He also teaches professional choral conducting at Fribourg Conservatory. In 2002 he was assistant and choirmaster of the European Baroque Academy of Ambronay. |
