The Chorvereinigung St. Augustin in the Jesuitenkirche (University Church) is not a concert choir, but a choir consisting of about 70 volunteers.
The Chorvereinigung St. Augustin takes a special place in Vienna church music scene: On almost every Sunday and public holiday - except for the holiday months in summer - they participaste in the services with choral and orchestral masses from their wide repertoire. Elaborate and artistically difficult works are also on the program. This could not be achived without the special commitment of the singers and professional musicians - recruited from the great Viennese orchestras, who usually accompany the choir for many years.
So on the one hand the volunteer efforts of the many choir members, on the other hand the enthusiastic participation of the professional musician allow the same high artistic quality of church music. In the magnificent Baroque Jesuitenkirche, the ideal space for the performance of such music, the celebrating community service opens up the true dimension of this great works of sacred music. Many generous sponsors and donors, including the many friends of the choir and the worshipers of the Jesuitenkirche, allow these dedicated musical work by their support. The current Musical Director is Andreas Pixner.
CD recordings, radio and television broadcasts and performances abroad have made the Chorvereinigung known in Austria and given it international recognition. |
