The French accordionist and pianist, Fanny Vicens, studied music and musicology at Université Paris Sorbonne - Paris IV (Class of 2006). She obtained her Master of Contemporary Arts Performance degree from Hochschule Luzern Musik (2010-2012); her Soloist Diploma in Piano, Music Teacher Diploma in Accordion, Artistic Education degree in Piano and Accordion from Hochschule für Musik Trossingen, Germany (Class of 2013). Following that, she made a post-graduate degree dedicated to contemporary music at the 3e Cycle Supérieur DAI Répertoire Contemporain et Création at Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris (CNSMDP) jointly with a post-graduate soloist diploma as a pianist (2012-2014). She was an award winner in the Bechstein Piano Competition and the Deutscher Hochschulwettbewerb; her work has also received support from the DAAD, the Kunststiftung Baden-Württemberg, Mécénat Musical Société Générale and the Fondation Iris Marquardt. She is First accordionist to be rewarded by Foundations Banque Populaire, Paris (2010-2013) and Yehudi Menuhin Foundation (Stuttgart).
Fanny Vicens has been appearing on international concert platforms since an early age. She stands out by the programs she defends on the stage, reflecting her strong commitment to contemporary music and her keen interest for historically informed performance of the keyboard music the 15th until 18th centuries. She performs as soloist and chamber musician in more than ten countries, both in the contemporary repertoire and in early music (Girolamo Frescobaldi, Rameau, François Couperin, J.S. Bach…) and has been playing with more than thirty ensembles and orchestras throughout Europe, as well as working with current best directors. Some noteworthy are: Intercontemporain Ensemble, Ensembles Modern, Ensemble Itineraire, EIC, Ensemble 2e2m, Nouvel Ensemble Contemporain, Soyuz, Cairn and NEC, amongst others. She has been heard on on major European stages and in many festivals such as the Cité de la Musique, Philharmonie Luxembourg, IRCAM, Philharmonie Köln, Philharmonie Odessa, Montpellier Corum, KKL Lucerne, Konzerthaus Wien, Haus der Berliner Festspiele, Arsenal de Metz, Châtelet in Paris, Mannheim Opera, Opera Augsburg…
Fanny Vicens has played accordion concertos by Françaix, Nordheim, Haas, and piano concertos by W.A. Mozart, Dmitri Shostakovich with orchestras such as the Orchestre de Bretagne, Kammerorchester Pforzheim, Orchestre National de Lorraine and Orchestre de Cannes.
Fanny Vicens actively contributes to the development of the accordion and its contemporary repertoire. She premiered about fifty new works written by leading composers and by those of her generation with whom she nurtures her thoughts on the sonic identity of the accordion. She is involved in the creation of a rich repertoire with electronics and co-realised the first quarter-tone accordion in France. She was heard as a soloist in many accordion and piano concertos, among others, in the creation of a concerto by Chengbi An at Arsenal of Metz and in the concerto Spur by Arne Nordheim at the Cité de la Musique in January and February 2014. She takes part in interdisciplinary performances, along with the choreographer Maud le Pladec or in X.A.M.P with Jean-Etienne Sotty.
Fanny Vicens was Professor of Piano at Musikakademie Villingen-Schwenningen (May 2009-September 2010). She is a teacher of both her specialties at the ESM Bourgogne Franche-Comté (since 2013) and offers master-classes during European academies. Since December 2019, she is Professor of chamber music at Conservatoire Frédéric Chopin. She currently lives in Paris, France. |
