The Colombian conductor and viola da gamba player, Jorge-Daniel Valencia, attended the Conservatorio de la Universidad Nacional at the age of ten. From 1978 to 1980 he was a 2nd Conductor of the Choir of the Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá. In 1982, he completed his graduate studies in choral conducting and music theory at the Escuela Superior de Música de Tunja, Colombia. In Vienna, he continued his studies in music theory with Diether de la Motte at the University of Music, which he graduated with a Master degree. He studied the viola da gamba with José Vázquez and Lorenz Duftschmid. He attended master-classes in viola da gamba with Jordi Savall, August Wenzinger and Christophe Coin.
Jorge-Daniel Valencia's concert career has taken him in over ten different European countries, with various ensembles such as Armonico Tributo Austria, Clemencic Consort, Wien Barock, Studio da camera Wien and the Wiener Akademie. He has been involved in numerous CD, radio and television recordings.
Currently Jorge-Daniel Valencia teaches at the Musikschule Mauerbach near Vienna, as well as international courses for Early Music. In addition, he is also a leading member of the Tientos Ensemble, which deals with early music and has already made a name. Since June 2005, he directs with much enthusiasm the Schloßchor Hadersfeld. |
