The English tenor, Robin Tritschler, graduated from the Royal Irish Academy of Music and the Royal Academy of Music, London. Prizes have included the Ulster Bank Music Foundation Bursary, the Abigail Dodds Lieder Prize, the Song Prize at the 2nd China International Singing Competition and the Song Prize at the Kathleen Ferrier Awards 2006. He won the Lieder prize at the Internationaal Vocalisten Concours in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, (as well as being awarded 3rd place overall) and, most recently, 2nd Prize at the 2007 Wigmore Hall International Song Competition. He is a BBC New Generation Artist until the end of 2014, recording and performing across the BBC.
Since graduating Robin Tritschler has built a busy international singing career. In recital, he has worked with James Baillieu, James Boyd, Graham Johnson Simon Lepper, Janne Malinen, Malcolm Martineau, Eugene Murski and Roger Vignoles. He has performed many of the larger works of the song repertoire including Schubert's Die schöne Müllerin and Winterreise; Robert Schumann's Dichterliebe and Liederkreis; Johannes Brahms' Liebesliederwaltzer; Wolf's Spanischesliederbuch and Morike Lieder; and cycles by 20th century composers Hans Pfitzner, Benjamin Britten, GianCarlo Menotti, and Arthur Honegger. Bernadette Marmion and Robert Fokkens have both composed song cycles for Robin. His numerous recital appearances have included the KlavierFest Ruhr, the Orivesi Music Festival, Finland, the Aix- en- Provence Festival, the Benjamin Britten Festival at the Cologne Philharmonie, the Brahms Song Festival at the Concertgebouw, Amsterdam, the Dublin Hugo Wolf Festival, the Aldeburgh Festival, the Temple Recital Series in Utah, The Washington Vocal Arts Center, and the Kennedy Center, and the Wigmore Hall, London.
On the concert platform Robin Tritschler has sung many oratorios including George Frideric Handel's Messiah, Israel in Egypt; W.A. Mozart's Requiem, Mass in C minor; Schubert's Masses in A flat and E flat; Dvorak's Stabat Mater and Mass in D major; Berlioz's L'Enfance du Christ; and Rossini's Petite Solenelle. He has sung with the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland (RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra), Irish Chamber Orchestra, RTE Concert Orchestra, Orchestra of St. John's, Smith Square, Capella Cracoviensis, Poland, National Symphony Orchestra of Belarus, Halle Operhaus Orchestra and London Philharmonic Orchestra. He frequently broadcasts on radio, including EU broadcasts during the Irish EU presidency and a concert from the Vatican to celebrate the 80th Anniversary of the Vatican State, before Pope Benedict XVI. Other orchestral works he has performed include B. Britten's Serenade for tenor, horn and strings (with Richard Watkins), and Saint Nicolas; Finzi's Dies Natalis, as well as the chamber works On Wenlock Edge by Ralph Vaughan Williams, and Fieber by Franz Lehar.
Robin Tritschler has performed over 90 Bach cantatas, both evangelist and tenor roles of J.S. Bach's St Matthew (BWV 244) and St John Passions (BWV 245), Weihnachtsoratorium (BWV 248), B minor Mass (BWV 232), and Lutheran Masses (BWV 233-236). Since 1997 he has been a soloist with the Orchestra of St Cecilia for the Bach Cantata Series at St Ann's Church, Dublin. He has also performed J.S. Bach in Britain, Germany, France, Norway, Finland, and Switzerland. In 2005 he toured The Netherlands as the Evangelist of J.S. Bach's St Matthew Passion (BWV 244) with Concerto Amsterdam under Klaas Stok.
At the 2004 Aldeburgh Festival Robin Tritschler gave his first operatic performance singing Sultan Solimann in W.A. Mozart's Zaide under Paul McCreesh. In 2005, he was 1st Jew in Salome under Edo de Waart with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, Hong Kong. In August 2006 he sang the tenor role in the World Première production of Roger Waters' Ça Ira in Poland. He joined the Welsh National Opera (WNO) as a principle artist in the 2008-2009 season, singing Rodrigo in Otello, Count Almaviva in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Marzio in Mitridate, Nemorino in L’elisir d’amore and Narraboth in Salome, returning as a guest for Belmonte in Die Entfuehrung aus dem Serail, Jaquino in Fidelio, Ferrando in Cosi fan tutte, Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni, Benedict in Beatrice and Benedict and and Ananda in Jonathan Harvey's Wagner Dream. He made his debut with the Ruhr Triennale Festival in a production of John Cage’s Europeras 1 & 2.
Recent opera engagements include a return to the Nantes Opera for The Two Widows, and his concert appearances include the Gulbenkian Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra with Trevor Pinnock, and London Philharmonic Orchestra with Yannick Nézet-Séguin He made his debut with the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in Wozzeck. His many concerts this season include Pulcinella with the Ulster Orchestra (Jac van Steen), Schubert and W.A. Mozart masses at the Teatro Petruzelli in Bari, a tour of the St John Passion (BWV 245) with Philippe Herreweghe, and a solo evening recital with Graham Johnson at the Wigmore Hall. Robin will make his debut with the Garsington Opera as Ferrando. |
