The Dutch soprano, Elma Timmers-Dekker, studied at Murmelliusgymnasium (1994-2002). She received her first singing lessons from Marianne Pak. Currently she is coached by Hanneke de Wit and Paul Triepels. She attended master-classes with Christoph Prégardien, Margreet Honig, Nico van der Meel, Johannette Zomer and Miranda van Kralingen, among others.
Since 2010, Elma Timmers sings as a freelancer with the Nederlands Kamerkoor (Director: Peter Dijkstra) since September 2015, Cappella Amsterdam (Director: Daniel Reuss) since May 2014, SWR Vokalensemble Stuttgart and the Laurens Collegium Rotterdam (Director: Wiecher Mandemaker) since October 2013. In February 2014 she took part in "Meesters&Gezellen', a project choir directed by Kaspars Putnins, in which young choristers are coached by members of Cappella Amsterdam and the Nederlands Kamerkoor. In 2013, she was selected by De Nederlandse Opera to participate in a ten-day workshop on contemporary music.
As a soloist, Elma Timmers sings regularly and with much love J.S. Bach. In November 2015, she sang the solo cantatas BWV 204 and BWV 209 accompanied by strings of Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. In addition to many other cantatas, she also has performed as a soloist Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244) and Johannes-Passion (BWV 245). Furthermore, she sang works by George Frideric Handel (Messiah), Gabriel Fauré (Requiem), Antonio Vivaldi (Gloria) and Felix Mendelssohn (Hör mein Bitten, various Psalms).
Elma Timmers regularly gives concerts with organists, including Aart Bergwerff, Geerten van de Wetering, Matthias Havinga and Pieter van Dijk. She thereby focuses on repertoire written for soprano and organ by such compoers as Max Reger Alphons Diepenbrock and Hendrik Andriessen, and others.
Before she fully devoted herself singing, Elma Timmers studied double-bass with Jean-Paul Everts and Knut Guettler at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag (Royal Conservatory in The Hague), where she obtained her Bachelor of Music degree in Vlassical double-bass (2004-2011).. As a double-bass player, she played among others as a leader in the Netherlands Symphony Orchestra (NSO) conducted by Otto Tausk and they participated in the NJO Summer- and winter academies directed by Reinbert de Leeuw and Mark Wigglesworth. She played in orchestras under the baton of Neeme Järvi, Martin Sieghart, Etienne Siebens and Hans Leenders, among others.
Because of her interest in theological issues Elma Timmers also studied World Religions at the Universiteit Leiden (2004-2011). She married Fulco Timmers on October 22, 2009 and currently lives in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. |
