The Hungarian soprano, Katalin Szutrély, studied music theory at the studied at the Bartók Béla Zeneművészeti Szakközépiskola (Béla Bartók Secondary School of Music) in Budapest (1988-1992). She studied singing education at the Liszt Ferenc Zeneakadémia (Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music) in Budapest, graduating with teacher degree with honors (1992-1997). In 2012 she also earned a doctorate (DLA) at the Faculty of Management. She continued her studies at the Liszt Ferenc Zeneakadémia (Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music) in Szeged as a student of Valeria Berdál (1994-1997); then trained with Vera Rózsa in London (1997-2001) and Anna Reynolds in Germany. She also participated in The Baylies Program, Opera Course of the English National Opera (2000-2001). She attended several master-classes in Budapest, Vienna, Stuttgart, Bremen and Florence. In 2000, she won the Hungarian Wagner Society's Singing Scholarship for the Bayreuth Festival. She is currently working with Éva Lax.
As a singer, Katalin Szutrély has performed in oratorio performances and solo performances in Hungary, England, Romania and Croatia. A dedicated devotee of Lieder, she has performed several times with Malcolm Bilson (Pécs, Budapest, The Hague). In addition, she has been mainly involved in oratorio and concert opera performances: in recent years she sang the soprano parts in George Frideric Handel's Messiah and Hercules, Haydn's Creation and Seasons, Gabriel Fauré's Requiem, Felix Mendelssohn's Eliah and Paulus. As a member of the Purcell Choir (Director: György Vashegyi) and as a singer soloist, she participated in the productions of Helmuth Rilling, René Jacobs and György Vashegyi in 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 seasons. In recent years, she has sung several opera roles: Countess in W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro (Palace of Arts, 2012), Circé, a sorceress in Jean-Marie Leclair's Scylla et Glaucus (MÜPA, 2013) and Vitellia in W.A. Mozart's La clemenza di Tito (MFA, 2014). In June 2013, she sang the role of Aricie in the premiere of Rameau's Hippolyte et Aricie at the Hungarian State Opera.
Her teaching activites: Piano accompanist of Professor Vera Rózsa in London (1997-2001); solfege and private teacher at International Kodály Seminar in Kecskemét (2001); Teacher of voice and sound at the Városmajori Gimnázium (Városmajori High School) in Budapest (2001-2002); Since September 2002, she teaches solfege, music theory, music history and singing at the Kodály Intézetben (Kodály Institute). |
