The Taiwanese-born German pianist and fortepianist, Li-Chun Su, studied at the Taipei University of the Arts (1999-2001), the University of the Arts Berlin (2001-2010) and University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (2002-2004). She studied with Laszlo Simon, Martin Hughes, Mitzi Meyerson (Fortepiano), Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau (Lieder accompany), Alicia de Larrocha, Paul Badura-Skoda and Malcolm Bilson in Berlin, Weimar, Vienna and South France. She has refined her music interpretation with Gabor Paska.
In 2007 and 2008 Li-Chun Su won first prizes at the Arthur-Schnabel Competition in Berlin (2007), Felix-Mendelssohn-Bartholdy Competition in Berlin (2007) and Porto International Competition (2008). In 2006 she was the finalist in the International International Johann-Sebastian-Bach Compeitition in Leipzig. During the Felix-Mendelssohn-Bartholdy Competition for Duo Piano and Cello, she won the Federal- President-Scholarship in Berlin. in 2006. Li-Chun Su was also to be heard and seen on several occasions on Germany broadcasting networks like Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (RBB), Deutschlandradio, and Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR).
Li-Chun Su has emerged as one of Germany's most versatile young pianists. She is a soloist, a chamber musician and a fortepianist. She has been acclaimed as a talented interpreter of a wide-ranging repertoire from J.S. Bach to comtemporary piano music. She made her Berlin soloist debut at the Grand Hall of the Berlin Philharmonic in 2001. She has played numerous piano concertos in the Grand Hall and Chamber Music Hall of the Berlin Philharmonic Concert Hall with das Sinonie Orchester Berlin (2001-2006) and Berliner Symphoniker in 2010, with the Jenaer Philharmonie at Philharmonic Hall in Jena in 2006. She has performed with the Mendelssohn Kammerorchester Leipzig at the Gewandhaus Mendelssohn Hall in Leipzig in 2006 and with the Berlin University of Arts Symphony Orchestra at Hardenberg Concert Hall in 2008. In Casa de la Musica, Porto she has played with Porto National Orchestra in 2008. In 2009 she was invited to be the solist with Taipei Symphony Orchestra in Taipei. Since her debut at Konzerthaus Berlin in 2013 with Junge Philharmonie Brandenburg, she is invited repeatedly to give concert at Konzerthaus Berlin. She has performed in Netherlands, Germany, UK, Belgium, Switzerland, and Austria.
Li-Chun Su is also a highly accomplished fortepianist. She has given several recitals at the Musikinstrumenten Museum Berlin, at the Michael Haydn Musikfestival Salzburg and Bebersee Festival Brandenburg. She was honored to play Carl Czerny's work on Carl Czerny's own 1834 Boesendorfer which was shipped from Vienna to the International Czerny Congress, 2007 for her to play for the occasion. She has also been privileged to play the Brodmann’s 1810 fortepiano once owned by Carl Maria von Weber and on an 1838 Conrad Graf.. This year she is invited to record W.A. Mozart, Schubert and Calr Maria von Weber on those original instruments like Stein Fortepiano 1775 and Brodmann 1810.
Since 2008 Li-Chun Su has been piano faculty of the University of the Arts Berlin. She is invited to give master-classes in Taiwan and China. She currently lives in Berlin, Germany. |
