Vincent Spoeltman (Baritone)

Born: November 20, 1984 - Capelle aan den IJssel, South Holland, the Netherlands

The Dutch baritone, choral conductor and voice instructor, Vincent L. Spoeltman, studied first Social Sciences at the Utrecht University (2004-2008). He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Classical Singing from the Rotterdam Conservatory (Codarts) (2008-2012), where he studied singing with Carolyn Watkinson. In the season 2011-2012 he worked at Opera Studio Netherlands. He also took lessons and master-classes with Meinard Kraak, Roberta Alexander, Doris Soffel, Dennis O'Neill, Raymond Modesti, Patricia MacMahon and Ira Siff. He later studied at Studied at Holos Academie voor Massagetherapie (June-September 2021), Wim Hof Academy (December 2019-March 2022). Currently he is studying with Andrew Schroeder at the Dutch National Opera Academy.

Vincent Spoeltman has been active as a concert singer since September 2009. His oratorio repertoire is wide and ranges from J.S. Bach and George Frideric Handel to Benjamin Britten and Igor Stravinsky. He was as a bass-baritone heard in the major Dutch concert halls. So he sang at the Koninklijk Concertgebuw, Dr. Anton Philipszaal, De Doelen, Beurs van Berlage, Musis Sacrum, and De Vereeniging. He has worked with the Hague Philharmonic Orchestra, Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra, Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra and Ensemble Ludwig. He sang with conductors such as Gijs Leenaars, Antony Hermus, Wiecher Mandemaker, Richard Egarr, Antonio Mendez, Arjan Tien, Lucas Vis and Philip Pickett.

On the opera stage Vincent Spoeltman sang in the summer of 2010 in a production of Transparant Plutone in Monteverdi’s Orfeo in the concert hall of Antwerp and Bruges. In December 2011 and in June 2012 he sang the roles of Benoit and Alcindoro in Puccini’s La Boheme in a production of Opera Studio Netherlands and in the summer of 2012 he sang Don Inigo in Ravel's L'Heure Espagnol at the Peter de Grote festival in Groningen. In May 2012 he made his debut in the big hall of De Doelen concert hall as Papageno in a Dutch-language adaptation of W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte. He is also featured in modern compositions. So he sang in November 2012, the role of Captain Cat in the opera Sjoerd (June 2011) by Slava Kumanikin. Last summer he performed the role of Figaro in W.A. Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro under the musical direction of Richard Egarr directed by Alexander Oliver. In January, he was heard as Don Alfonso in W.A. Mozart's Cosi fan tutte in cooperation with the Hague Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Antony Hermus. The direction was given by Lotte de Beer. In February, he sang in Puccini's Gianni Schicchi Betto in a concert by the National Touring Opera. In April he sang Enrico in Anna Bolena at Bredeweg Festival in Amsterdam. In May, he sang Angelotti / Sacristarius in Puccini's Tosca with the Wageningen Symphony Orchestra.

As a lieder singer Vincent Spoeltman regularly cooperate with song / chamber music in the Netherlands and Germany, including songs by Johannes Brahms, Robert Schumann, Ralph Vaughan Williams and Borodin. So he sang in February 2011 during a concert at the Kunsthaus im Hess Park (Weener) songs of Borodin and J. Brahms. In June 2011 he worked on a CD recording of songs by W. Rihm and F. Delius text of Nietzsche. The CD was presented in concerts in the Pulchi Studio in The Hague and Utrecht Geertekerk. In June 2013 he sang the Songs and Dances of Death by Mussorgsky with the Nijmegen Student Orchestra, conducted by Karel Deseure. On October 25, 2013, he sang at the invitation of the National Touring Opera a recital at theater Concordia in Enschede.

Conductor

Vincent Spoeltman made ​​his first singing experience as a boy soprano in a classical boys choir, where he was regularly heard as a soloist. He studied four years of General Social Sciences before he decided to do something more with his love and talent for music. In June 2012 finished his Bachelor in classical singing at the Rotterdam Conservatory, Codarts. Besides his vocal studies Vincent studied three years of choral conducting (Minor) with Wiecher Mandemaker. Furthermore he took conducting Master-classes with Arie van Beek.

Vincent Spoeltman has been active as a choral singer and sings in professional (project) choirs and ensembles. So he sings in Laurens Collegium Rotterdam conducted by Wiecher Mandemaker and Bachkoor Holland conducted by Gijs Leenaars. In the summer of 2009 he made a tour with the World Youth Choir. As a chorister he worked, amongst others with the Netherlands Radio Choir, with conductors such as Jaap van Zweden, Jan- Jan Willem de Vriend, James MacMillan, Philip Pickett, Roy Goodman and Frans Brüggen.

As a conductor Vincent Spoeltman is connected to the Choir of the international City church ‘Het Steiger’ in Rotterdam, Christian Youth Choir Anthem in Nieuwerkerk a/d IJssel and chamber choir Musica Vocalis in Krimpen aan den IJssel. In the 2011-2012 season he was a guest teacher choral training at the classical music department of the Rotterdam Conservatoirum (Codarts). Vincent is regular working as a vocal teacher for choirs. For example, he was active in male choir ‘De Verenigde zangers’ Barendrecht and chamber choir ‘Fiori Musicali’ in Middelharnis.
