Het Concertgebouw Kamerorkest (The Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra) (= CCO) was formed in 1957. From 1957 until 1984 it was called Amsterdamer Kammerorchester (Amsterdam Chamber Orchestra). In 1961, Marinus Voorberg became permanent Conductor, and with him the Orchestra made many Television and Radio recordings. In the first years of its existance the Orchestra was primarily engaged with recording LP’s, and made many recordings with conductors like Andre Rieu and Anton van der Horst, for the CNR, and for labels such as Telefunken, His Master's Voice, Philips, Artone and CBS.
During the inauguration of Princess Beatrix as Queen of the Netherlands, on April 30 1980 in Amsterdam, it was a great honner the Chamber Orchestra was asked to play the Coronation-mass of W.A. Mozart.
The enthusiastic reviews it received stirred the interest of Dutch radio and television broadcasters. The ensemble has often performed abroad, for example in Germany, Belgium, Italy, Spain, the UK, and has also appeared in various Scandinavian countries as well as countries in the Caribbean region, Africa, and Japan.
The CCO consists of members of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Amsterdam, thus guaranteeing its performances a high degree of homogeneity, flexibility, polish, and intensity. Depending upon the programme, a total of 14 or 15 musicians play in the ensemble.
The CCO is making also CD-recordings regularly with different labels. Some famous soloist the CCO has been working with are : Friedrich Gulda, Lynn Harrel, Jaap van Zweden, Maria-João Pires, Jacob Slagter. Since January 1995, permanent conductor of the orchestra is maestro Marco Boni. They also work with different quest-conductors like: Gilbert Varga, Roland Kieft, Vincent de Kort, Adam Fisher. |
