The Swedish violinst and violist, Nils-Erik Sparf, comes from a family of folk-musicians. He studied at the Royal Conservatory of Stockholm and in Prague.
In 1993 Nils-Erik Sparf became the leader of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and he also played with the Royal Opera Orchestra. He is also one of the leaders of the Stockholm Sinfonietta, leads the Drottningholm Baroque Ensemble and is concert master of the Uppsala Chamber Orchestra. He tours as a soloist and orchestra leader worldwide.
Nils-Erik Sparf has recorded with almost every major Swedish artists, including: the mezzo-soprano Anne Sofie von Otter, the pianist Bengt Forsberg and the recorder player Dan Laurin, as well as with the Drottningholm Baroque Ensemble and Uppsala Chamber Soloists, for BIS, Proprius and other labels. His many recordings of Baroque violin is unrivaled and his version of Antonio Vivaldi’s Four Seasons (with Drottningholm Baroque Ensemble for BIS, 1984) has sold over 200,000 copies and became the music magazine Audio is selected as the best of all time. This recording is highly recommendable for it's clarity and the excellence of the playing.
Nils-Erik Sparf was awarded the Jussi Björling Scholarship in 1993 and is since 1992 member of the Royal Academy of Music in Sweden. |
