The Dutch soprano, Marjo van Someren, received her first singing lessons at the Amersfoortse Muziekschool with Maria van der Slikke. She continued her singing studies with Hein Meens at the Sweelinck Conservatorium in Amsterdam, where she graduated in May 1997. She then studied with Henny Diemer, Johannette Zomer and Geert Berghs. Currently her vocal coach is Heleen Koele.
Marjo van Someren as soloist regularly in choral and oratorio concerts. She has in recent years built up a very diverse repertoire, among other things, the well-known works by J.S. Bach (St. Matthew Passion (BWV 244) and St. John Passion (BWV 245), Weihnacht-Oratorium (BWV 248), Magnificat (BWV 243), Mass in B minor (BWV 232), and many cantatas), The Messiah by George Frideric Handel, W.A. Mozart and Haydn Masses, Romantic works by Johannes Brahms (Deutsches Requiem), Felix Mendelssohn (Elias and Hör`mein Bits) Misa Creolla by Ramirez and Le Roi David by Arthur Honegger. She also works regularly in performances of choirs throughout the country with the Christian repertoire, and is thus also can be heard on many CD's. As a Lieder singer, she has built a varied repertoire with her regular accompanist Sabine van der Heyden. They performed, inter alia, De Kinderkamer by Mussorgsky (in a Dutch translation) and Frauenliebe und Leben by Robert Schumann, and many other songs in different languages and styles, where the Romantic song is evident favourite.
In November 2010 her first solo CD was released: "Let there be Christmas", a Christmas CD with arrangements by Bart Oenema, with a surprising line: piano, drums, bass, guitar, saxophone, bassoon and cello. It is a CD with a variety of Christmas songs: in different languages, in different styles, from classical to jazz and pop, and in various ensembles. A CD with familiar and unfamiliar carols, all in a new jacket.
As a freelancer, Marjo van Someren is a member of the chamber choir.Cappella Amsterdam (Director: Daniel Reuss) since 1999. Because of this she is working at a very high level with ensembles from big name in the Netherlands, such as the Orchestra of the 18th Century, Schoenberg Ensemble, Combattimento Consort Amsterdam, Nederlands Blazers Ensemble, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. All this often led by Daniel Reuss as chief conductor of Cappella Amsterdam, but also directed by other top conductors as Frans Brüggen, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Kaspars Putnins, Frieder Bernius, Jan Willem de Vriend, Reinbert de Leeuw and others. She travels a lot with Cappella Amsterdam to concerts in Italy, France, Germany, Poland, Estonia, Austria, and Japan. Also with the Nederlandse Opera, Nationale Reis Opera and Veenfabriek, Cappella Amsterdam has done theater and opera, and will continue to do so in the future, indicating the versatility of the choir. After her graduation, Marjo van Somerenis also sang a number of years with Collegium Vocale Gent (Director: Philippe Herreweghe). Currently she lives in Kampen, the Netherlands. |
