The German baritone, Erik [Eric] Sohn, studied music and German in Cologne. He passed the state exam after singing studies in Dortmund with Professor Berthold Schmid. After graduation he had further studies with Norman Shetler, Barbara Schlick, Karl-Peter Kammerlander and Michael Volle.
Erik Sohn's busy schedule as a concert and oratorio singer has led him to engagements throughout Germany as well as France, Spain, Austria, Czech Republic, Israel, Korea and the USA. He worked in various opera and musical theatre productions. In the field of new music he appeared as a guest in projects with the KlangForum Heidelberg, the Ensemble Modern Frankfurt and the Ensemble Recherche from Freiburg.
Another focus of his artistic work is Lieder singing. With an extensive repertoire of romantic and contemporary literature through to the Jazz, Erik Sohn has given numerous Lieder recitals.
As a coach of the a-cappella group Wise Guys, Erik Sohn works with singing ensembles nation-wide as an ensemble coach with a focus on popular music. In this area, since 2006 he is lecturer at the Hochschule für Musik Köln, where he initiated the festival for Popular Vocal Music "voc.cologne". CD productions and radio recordings round off his artistic activity. |
