The German tenor, Berthold Schmid, studied in Stuttgart, Munich and Freiburg
As a concert singer Berthold Schmid performs Lieder and oratorio of the classical repertoire. He also feels committed to the new music, with many premieres in close co-operation with the composers. Numerous tours in Europe, and to Japan, Korea, Israel and South America, as well as appearances with numerous festivals such as Warsaw Autumn, Weltmusiktage, Internationales Festival Bergen or the Internationale Festspiele Baden-Württemberg expel him as renowned opera and oratorio singer and also as engaged Lieder interpreter.
Broadcast and record productions round off Berthold Schmid's activity apart from opera appearances.
Since 1989 Berthold Schmid is Professor for singing at the Musikhochschule in Dortmund. He also teaches singing at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Leipzig. Among his pupils: Anna-Lena Grahl (Mezzo-soprano). |
