Uwe Schulze (Tenor, Choral Conductor)

Born: Hannover, Germany

The German tenor, choral conductor and church musician, Uwe Schulze, studied church music at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen (organ with Professoe Gerd Zacher, choral conducting with Professor Manfred Schreier and singing with Detlef Zywietz). After the A-Cantor-examination, he continued his vocal studies with Professor Berthold Schmid at Dortmunder Musikhochschule. He attended courses with, among others, Harald Vogel and Michael Radulescu (organ), Jessica Cash (singing), Frieder Bernius and Manfred Schreier (conducting and contemporary music).

Since he was 15, Uwe Schulze has been conductor of various choirs and ensembles. From 1993 to 1997 he was Kantor of the Ev. Kirchengemeinde Viersen-Süchteln and, In this post he was responsible for a wide range of choral work, the oratorio performances and the organization and implementation of the "Süchtelner Vespermusiken". The annual "Sommernachtskonzerte bei Kerzen- und Fackelschein" with orchestral works by J.S. Bach, Antonio Vivaldi and others under his direction were special and widely acclaimed highlights of the concert series.

Since 1997, Uwe Schulze focuses primarily on his vocal solo and pedagogic activity. He has worked together with noted conductors such as Thomas Hengelbrock, Philippe Herreweghe, Konrad Junghänel, Frieder Bernius, Hermann Max, Peter Neumann, Michael Schneider, Bruno Weil, and Andreas Spering, among others. He was a member of, the Collegium Vocale Gent, Balthasar-Neumann-Chor and Kammerchor Stuttgart, among others.
