The German conductor, Michael Scholl, studied from 1985 to 1989 at the Kirchenmusikschule in Halle/Saale. Since 1989 he has been in Biederitz and since 1991 also employed in Magdeburg as a church musician.
In 1989 Michael Scholl founded the Biederitzer Kantorei, which also has made a name for performances of choral works rarely played beyond the borders of Saxony-Anhalt. These include numerous sacred works by Georg Philipp Telemann (Matthäus-Passion 1758, Lukas-Passion 1728, Markus-Passion 1755, Der Tag des Gerichts, etc.), Stabat Mater in F minor by Franz Schubert, the Seven Words of Christ on the Cross by César Franck and the German premiere of Benjamin Britten's cantata The Company of Heaven. In 1991 he founded the chamber choir of the Biederitzer Kantorei.
In 1990 Michael Scholl launched the Biederitzer Musiksommer, an annual concert series, in which varied programmes of regional importance are performed. |
