The Biederitzer Kantorei was founded in 1989 by Cantor Michael Scholl, who now directs the choir. The choir consists of the chorus of Biederitzer Kantorei, a chamber choir of the Kantorei Biederitzer, youth choir and children's choir. A particular concern of the Kantorei is bringing rarely performed works to a broad audience. A special emphasis is placed on the rich creative Georg Philipp Telemann.
Choir rehearsals usually take place once a week. The singing along in the Biederitzer Kantorei is all possible, regardless of whether they belong to a religion or not. The only requirement is a little musical talent combined with the joy of music and choral singing.
The Passions and the cantatas of the Baroque master Georg Philipp Telemann, who was born in Magdeburg, are performed regularly by the Biederitzer Kantorei, and, for sevrral years, more of his cantatas in the project "Barockkantaten auf den Dörfern."
With extensive concert activities within the Biederitzer Musiksommers, the amateur choir has become an important cultural institution in the Magdeburg surrounding. In addition, the choir has given concerts in European cities such as Rome, Palestrina (Italy), Malaga (Spain) and Steffisburg (Switzerland), because the Biederitzer Kantorei maintains a close friendship since 1991 with the Choir of the Church Steffisburg in Switzerland, since 2001 a partnership with Sancti Petri Collegium Musicum (Cathedral Choir Malaga) and, since 2002 with the Coro de polifonico Palestrina (Italy).
The work of the choir is supported by Förderkreis Biederitzer Kantorei e.V., formed in 1995. The Biederitzer Kantorei Chamber Choir and the Biederitzer Kantorei have recorded several CD's. |
