The Swiss counter-tenor and Yoga instructor, Bernhard Schafferer, finished his Master of Arts degree in Music & Instrumental Music Pedagogy with distinction at the Universität Mozarteum Salzburg (1993-2004). He extended his vocal studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London with Charles Brett and Paul Esswood, obtaining Vocal Studies Teaching Licence (1996-1997); further at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague with Diane Forlano and Rita Dams; and finally in the class of Andreas Scholl at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basel. Next to his education in Music he obtained his Masters Degree of Arts and Science in Sustainable Development from the University of Basel (2007-2010).
Bernhard Schafferer is a professional concert and opera-singer, focused in early music. Since January 1996, he has been self-emlpyed classical counter-tenor singer. He worked as a soloist with conducters as Ton Koopman (J.S. Bach's Mass in B minor BWV 232), Harry Christophers (Spirit in H. Purcell's Dido and Aeneas), Baron Enoch zu Guttenberg (Extracts of H. Purcell's The fairy Queen at Festival Herrenchiemsee, W.A. Mozart's Requiem and Stabat Mater by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi), Andrew Parrott (Vesper of the mount carmelite) and Howard Arman (live-broadcasting from George Frideric Handel's Munic, Dixit Dominus and Anthem for the funeral of Queen Caroline). Next to various oratories and operas by G.F. Handel in concert and scenic productions such as Allesandro at the Musicfestival Potsdam with Alan Curtis. He was also a member of the Dresdner Kammerchor (Director: Hans-Christoph Rademann) and Kammerchor Stuttgart (Director: Frieder Bernius).
Due his interests in Yoga, Bernhard Schafferer decided to get deeper knowledge by doing a Yoga teachers training in an Ashram of Yoga Vidya in Germany. In the same Ashram he did an extended training as a Yoga Personaltrainer. Since April 2003, he works in Sales & Information at Kult Kino Basel. Since September 2010, he works as Yoga instructor at Niyama - Yogastudio, Basel. |
