The German pianist, Hans-Georg Schäfer, had comprehensive music studies, including piano, conducting, composition and opera.
After finishing his studies, Hans-Georg Schäfer started his musical career as an opera capellmeister, and has worked in series of German, Italian and American theatres, including the stages of Ulm, Heidelberg and Bremen, with numerous guest directing in Berlin, Vienna, Milan, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Barcelona, etc. In 1972 he became director of the Jahrhunderthalle Hoechst in Frankfurt, from 1985 to 1989 he was managing director of the Berliner Philharmoniker, and additionally, from 1980 to 2000, of Bachwoche Ansbach. Since 1994 he has been reponsible for the the Frankfurter Bachkonzerte, and since 2001 he is director of the Köthener Bachfesttage and managing director of the Köthener BachGesellschaft mbH.
With all his managing activities, Hans-Georg Schäfer likes making music, especially piano playing. In recent years he performed several times both books of the J.S. Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier, as well as the Goldberg Variations (BWV 988). These works were also released on CD. |
