Bachwoche Ansbach

History & Mission:

The first Bachwoche took place in Schloss Weissenstein-Pommersfelden in the summer of 1947. Because of the great success and the big demand it has been necessary to find another location with more place.
So Ansbach, the former residence of the markgraves of Brandenburg-Ansbach, has been chosen almost intact after the second worldwar and with a multitude of historical venues like the orangerie, the palace of Ansbach, one of the few intact baroque synagogues of Germany and the two big churches St. Gumbertus and St. Johannis.
Since the year 1967, the Bachwoche Ansbach has moved from an annual to a biennial cycle of events.
Many famous artists and orchestras of Baroque music also young artists at the beginning of their career have been already guests at the Bachwoche Ansbach.
