Friederike Sailer (Soprano) |
Born: February 20, 1920 - Regensburg, Bavaria, Germany
Died: June 1994 - Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, Germany |
The German soprano, Friederike Sailer, wanted originally to become a kindergarten teacher and after her marriage she lived in Ansbach. By coincidence she discovered her voice, with which she sang initial at Operetta theatres. Then she moved to the Nurnberger studio of the Bavarian broadcast, where she made her first parts in opera.
From 1952 Friederike Sailer was engaged by the State Opera of Stuttgart, at which she worked since that time. In 1954 and 1955 she made guest appearances with Stuttgart’s ensemble at the Grand Opéra in Paris, including, among other roles, the Marzelline in Fidelio. In May 1957 she sang at the Festival of Schwetzingen in the premiere of the opera Der Revisor by W. Egk, and in May 1966 in the same Festival in Der Tod des Empedokles by Hermann Reutters. She made guest appearances, particularly in lyric roles, at the Munich State Opera and at other major opera and concert halls. In 1959 she sang at the Festivals of Salzburg as 1st Lady in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, and in 1958 at Festival of Glyndebourne as Gretchen in Wildschütz by Lortzing.
Friederike Sailer was esteemed also as an oratorio and Lieder singer. She held a teaching job at the Musikhochschule Stuttgart.
Friederike Sailer's recordings appeared on Columbia (J.S. Bach's Cantatas), on Erato (Cantatas of F.W. Zachow), MMS (Meermädchen in Oberon) and on Eurodisc. On the Opera label she sang the solo in the German Requiem by Johannes Brahms, on Nixa in the opera Rodelinda by George Frideric Handel, on Memories Kunigunde in Hans Sachs by Lortzing, and on Gala Die Zauberflöte (Salzburg, 1959). |
