The Studentische Madrigalchor of the Westfälischen Wilhelms-Universität Münster (= SMCM) stands since its foundation in 1947 under the direction of Professor Herma Kramm. Very soon it developed to an internationally well-known ensemble. Its repertoire covers primarily the classical a-cappella-literature: motets, madrigals, and choral works of the Romantic period well as contemporary compositions. In addition come the big choral works with orchestra of J.S. Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Schubert, Robert Schumann, Johannes Brahms, Bruckner, Dvorák, Verdi and Gustav Mahler.
In the 50 years of its existence the SMCM gave more than 1,100 concerts. 42 tours led it to numerous countries of all continents. High points were appearances at international festivals in Vienna, Rome, Brussels, New York, Sydney, Bombay, Kobe, Puerto Rico, Rio de Janeiro, as well as the Münster concerts for the opening of the Salzburg Festival in 1986, 1990 and 1993. Since 1990 the SMCM maintains exchange relations with the new lands of the Federal Republic with emphasis in Berlin, Jena, Erfurt, and Arnstadt. Numerous broadcast recordings with the WDR Köln, as well as LP/CD productions in Germany and abroad supplement the various activities of the choir. |
