The German choral conductor and former soprano, Herma Kramm, studied music, German and English literature in Münster and Vienna.
Herma Kramm was active as soloist singer and music teacher. In 1947 she created in Münster the Studentischen Madrigalchor, which she led since then artistically and organisational. The choir appeared both in Germany and abroad, with over 40 concert tours brought it artistic message far beyond Münster to countries of all continents. High points were appearances of the choir under the direction of Herma Kramm with international Festivals in Vienna, Rome, Brussels, New York, Sydney, Bombay, Kobe, Puerto Rico, Rio de Janeiro among others, as well as repeated performances at the Salzburg Festival.
In 1981 Herma Kramm created a second choir in Münster, the Universitaetschor, which she likewise led since then with big success and which performed the big oratorios and other works. Broadcast recordings as well as LP and CD productions in her homeland and abroad supplemented the various musical activities of her choirs.
The Universität Münster honoured Herma Kramm repeatedly by the award the University Medal (1972), the appointment as the university choir directress (1981), the award of the title Honour Professor (1987) and the Honour Senator (1994). Her work and her great commitment for music and people communication found acknowledgement also outside of the University: So she was wearer of the Bundesverdienstkreuzes, the Verdienstordens of the Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen and the Paulus-Plakette of her home-town Münster. |
