The American soprano and organist, Cheryl Ryder, studied at Dana Hall School in Wellesley, Massachusetts (Class of 1969). She obtained her AB degree in Music from Wellesley College (1969-1973); her ALM degree in Psychology from Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts (1983-1988); and her MBA degree in Finance & Entrepreneurship from Boston University (1999-2001). She has studied organ with Nancy Granert, Christa Rakich, Brian Jones and Harald Vogel, and has participated in master-classes with Klaas Bolt, Fenner Douglass, and Frank Taylor, and in many European study tours led by Joan Lippincott.
Cheryl Ryder served for 32 years (1978-2010) at The Church of the Advent in Boston as singer, editor of many motets, and substitute conductor and organist. Congregation member of First Lutheran Church of Boston since 2010, she has been actively engaged with the music there as a singer, organist, conductor and coordinator of many special musical events. From November 2015-August 2016, she served there as Interim Music Director, in between the tenures of Bálint Karosi and Jonathan Wessler. Since 2005, she is the executive and artistic director of Canto Armonico, First Lutheran’s Ensemble in Residence. She has been a frequent visitor to Leipzig since the J.S. Bach-Year 1985. She currently lives in Belmont, Massachusetts. She worked as Special Projects Administrator Harvard Chemistry and Chemical Biology in Cambridge, Massachusetts (since 2005LI or 1973-2016FB). |
