The Canadian counter-tenor counter-tenor, Andrew Robar, began his singing career as a treble at St Matthew’s Anglican Church in 1993, serving as head chorister in 2000. A lover of sacred music, he continued singing with St Matthew’s choir until 2006 at which time he became a choral lead of the Men and Boys choir at Christ Church Cathedral Ottawa.
As a counter-tenor soloist, Andrew Robar has performed many works including Antonio Vivaldi's Gloria, J.S. Bach's Johannes-Passion BWV 245, Markus-Passion BWV 247, and George Frideric Handel's Messiah. He has also sung with the 17 Voyces, and the Ottawa Choral Society. As a founding member of Caelis Academy Ensemble, he believes in the importance of giving young musicians the opportunity to sing with professionals, while creating life long friendships, and learning from Matthew Larkin is the best education a young musician could have. He loves singing J.S. Bach due to the pure passion written in his music. He thinks you truly feel the music when you listen to Bach. He works as rodman (Red Seal Ironworker) at Ironworkers Local 765 (since June 2019). He currently lives in Ottawa, Ontario. |
