The American bass Mark Risinger, acclaimed by critics for both his "heroic virtuosity" and "vocal opulence," has performed throughout the USA and Britain in concert, opera, and recital, in repertoire ranging from the early baroque to the present.
Mark Risinger's 2000-2001 season included performances as the First Nazarene in Salome with Boston Lyric Opera, Baron Douphol in La Traviata with Connecticut Opera, Montano in Verdi's Otello at the Caramoor Festival, and the Fifth Jew in Salome with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, under Seiji Ozawa. Mark Risinger was also the bass soloist in L.v. Beethoven's Missa Solemnis with the Worcester Symphony and in the world premiere of Robert Kyr's The Spirit of Time with the Eugene Symphony, under Miguel Harth-Bedoya.
In the 2001-2002 season, Mark Risinger's engagements include performances as the bass soloist in L.v. Beethoven's Ninth Symphony with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, the title role in Bluebeard's Castle with the New England Philharmonic, Haydn's Harmonie Messe with the Nashua Symphony, a return to Connecticut Opera in the roles of Crespel and Luther in Les Contes d'Hoffmann, the world premiere of James Yannatos' Symphonies Sacred and Secular with the Harvard-Radcliffe Orchestra, and Gustav Mahler's Eighth Symphony with the Eugene Symphony.
Mark Risinger has received praise for a variety of roles, including the Sprecher, Garibaldo, Don Giovanni, Don Alfonso, the Grand Inquisitor, Dr. Miracle, the Duc de Verona, and other bass roles for companies including Boston Lyric Opera, Connecticut Opera, and Longwood Opera, as well as in concert performances of operas with orchestras such as the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Boston Baroque. He has performed during summer festivals as an apprentice of both Glimmerglass Opera and the Santa Fe Opera.
On the concert platform and recital stage, Mark Risinger's programs have covered song cycles from Schubert's Winterreise to Ned Rorem's War Songs, while his orchestral appearances have included George Frideric Handel's Joseph and His Brethren, Hercules, and Messiah, J.S. Bach's St. John Passion (BWV 245), Haydn's The Creation, L.v. Beethoven's Missa Solemnis and Ninth Symphony, Rossini's Stabat Mater, and the Requiem masses of W.A. Mozart and Verdi, among others.
