The Austrian violinist, Johannes Pramsohler, studied at the Conservatorio Claudio Monteverdi in Bolzano, at the Paris Conservatoire CRR (2005-2007), at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (2003-2005) and at the Royal Academy of Music in London. His main teachers were Georg Egger, Jack Glickman and Rachel Podger. Already during his studies he played with many of the leading period instrument orchestras such as Concerto Köln, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Les Arts Florissants (Director: William Christie) and Academy of Ancient Music. As part of his career development he was member of the 2007 European Union Baroque Orchestra. His collaboration with Reinhard Goebel continues to the present day, and is an important source of inspiration for his work. He was a prizewinner at the Magdeburg International Telemann Competition.
Johannes Pramsohler has in recent years become one of the most versatile representatives of his profession. As artistic director and first violin of the Ensemble Diderot, which he founded in 2008/2009, he brings to life unknown repertoire with great precision and a keen sense for significant rarities. This Paris-based ensemble is specialising in chamber music from the 17th and 18th centuries. Their debut recording of chamber music from the Dresden court of August the Strong in 2014 on Audax Records received international acclaim. The ensemble has since released four more recordings.
As concertmaster, Johannes Pramsohler has collaborated with The King's Consort (Director: Robert King), Le Concert d'Astrée (Director: Emmanuelle Haïm), Concerto Köln, Arte dei Suonatori, European Union Baroque Orchestra, and Britten-Pears Baroque Orchestra. He is founding member and artistic director of the London-based International Baroque Players. 2014 saw his soloist debut with the Budapest Festival Orchestra. He regularly performs as a guest of the Berliner Philharmoniker with their Early Music ensemble Concerto Melante. As soloist, Johannes recently performed under Iván Fischer with the Budapest Festival Orchestra and with the Taiwan Baroque Orchestra. Recitals with chamber music partners such as Philippe Grisvard (harpsichord) and Jadran Duncumb (lute) take him to Europe’s concert halls on a regular basis.
His first solo CD, of world premiere recordings of Johann Georg Pisendel's violin concertos from Dresden on the label Raumklang, was nominated for the International Classical Music Award. A desire for artistic independence even in the recording studio led Johannes Pramsohler to found his own CD label in 2013. The first recording released by Audax Records in October 2013, of works by Arcangelo Corelli, Georg Philipp Telemann, George Frideric Handel, Leclair, and Albicastro, was nominated for the Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik (German Record Critics’ Award). Audax Records has since released 10 more CD's to great critical acclaim, as well as a Baroque CD for children accompanied by a colouring book..
Since 2008, Johannes Pramsohler has had the honour of owning Reinhard Goebel's violin, a P.G. Rogeri made in 1713. A large part of Johannes’ recording projects is made possible through a sponsorship agreement with David Leppan and billionaire.com. He currently lives in Paris |
