The Dutch conductor, Chris Pouw, studied musicology at the University of Utrecht and choral conducting at the Conservatory of Amsterdam with Daniel Reuss. He took courses and lessons with Jos van Veldhoven, Paul van Nevel, Roland Kieft and Lucas Vis and participated four times in the ‘Kurt Thomas conductors course’. After a successful choral conducting exam in 2000, he has continued to develop as orchestral and opera conductor. Subsequently he studied orchestral conducting lessons with Jurjen Hempel and ‘Orkney Conducting Course’ directed by Martyn Brabbins with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and the Nash Ensemle. He also twice took part in the London Conducting Workshop directed by John Farrer with 'The New Professionals'.
Currently, Chris Pouw is conductor of the Dudok Ensemble, Arcade Ensemble, I Romantici, Kamerkoor Sjanton and Christelijk Oratoriumkoor Woerden. In his career as a choral, opera and orchestra conductor, he was as assistant conductor involved in Verdi's Falstaff, and he was artistic and musical director of Mozart's Don Giovanni. He was also involved in the opera production of Alzheimer, a tragicomic opera, and he was conductor of Gluck 's Orfeo. With the choir and orchestra I Romantics he made domestic and foreign tours with Johannes Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem, Sergei Rachmaninov's The Bells, Bruckner's Mass in F minor and Requiem by Verdi. With the Haags Vocaal Ensemble (Hague Vocal Ensemble) and the Arcade Ensemble he recently performed with great success J.S. Bach's B Minor Mass (BWV 232).
