Marie-Sophie Pollak (Soprano)

Born: January 8, 1988 - Bietigheim-Bissingen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany

The German soprano, Marie-Sophie Pollak, learned the piano and violin playing in her childhood. From 2007 to 2014 she studied with Gabriele Fuchs singing at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München, and graduated at the top of her class in 2012 and recieved the prize for “Best Singing” with her diploma. She recieved her masters degree in concert singing in the summer of 2014. In addition to her studies, she also attended master-classes with Roger Vignoles, Helmut Deutsch and Wolfgang Katschner, the founder and musical director of Lautten Compagney Berlin. She is a member of the Yehudi Menuhin sponsorship “Live Music Now” and the awardee of the Christl and Klaus Haack-Stiftung. She was chosen to receive the German scholarship in both 2012 and 2013.

Marie-Sophie Pollak performs in concerts as well as on opera stage. In 2011, she made her first professional appearance while she was still a student, performing Vespetta in Georg Philipp Telemann's Pimpinone in Innsbruck. In addition, she has performed the roles of Despina in W.A. Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte (Reaktorhalle Munich), Blonde in W.A. Mozart’s Abduction from the Seraglio (Festival Bad Reichenhall), Belinda in Purcell's Dido and Aeneas (Academie Theater Munich), Bemira in G.P. Telemann’s opera Miriways (Bruckner Festival Linz), La Dirindina by D. Scarlatti (Innsbruck festival/Turin festival) and Almirena in George Frideric Handel’s Rinaldo (Theater Schweinfurt and Leverkusen).

Marie-Sophie Pollak has worked with renowned conductors including Wolfgang Katschner, Alessandro de Marchi, Jean-Christophe Spinosi and Kent Nagano.

Last summer Marie-Sophie Pollak performed at the music festival Potsdam, singing J.S. Bach's Bauernkantate (BWV 212) and W.A. Mozarts Bastien und Bastienne. In January 2015 she performed in the role of Tamiri at the Théatre du Châtelet in Paris, in W.A. Mozart’s Il re pastore. Last year’s highlights were Haydn’s Jahreszeiten at the Audi Summer concerts under Kent Nagano and G.F. Handel’s Susanna under Martin Haselböck in Vienna.
