The German tenor, Martin Platz, received his musical education at the Hochschule für Musik Würzburg. He studied singing with Martin Hummel and choral conducting with Jörg Straube. He also attended master-classes with Magret Honig and Peter Nelson, among others. He has been under the artistic coaching of Tilman Lichdi for some years now.
Martin Platz is a permanent member of the opera ensemble of the Staatstheater Nürnberg where, as a lyric tenor, he performed roles including Belmonte in W.A. Mozart’s Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Tamino in W.A. Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, Don Ottavio in W.A. Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Steersman in Wagner’s Der fliegende Holländer as well as haute-contre roles in Rameau’s Platée and Les Indes Galantes.
In the field of oratorios, Martin Platz has performed many great works, e.g. Monteverdi's Vespro della Beata Vergine, J.S. Bach's Johannes-Passion (BWV 245), Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244) and Mass in B minor (BWV 232), as well as the oratorios George Frideric Handel's The Messiah and Felix Mendelssohn's Elias. He regularly gives concerts in Germany and neighboring countries. worked with conductors Christopher Hogwood, Bernard Labadie, Paul Agnew, Hansjörg Albrecht and Hervet Niquet, among others. In 2014 he also performed several times with Franz Schubert's Lieder cycle Die Schöne Müllerin. Most recently he sang the roles of Count Almaviva in Il barbiere di Siviglia and Telemaco in Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria at the Staatstheater Nürnberg. This season his roles include Lindoro in Rossini’s L'italiana in Algeri and the Evangelist in a dramatic performance of J.S. Bach's Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244).
