René Perler (Bass-Baritone)

Born: 1972 - Fribourg/Freiburg, Switzerland

The Swiss bass-baritone, René Perler, began his vocal studies at the age of 14 with Cécile Zay. He then studied in Berne, London and Zürich with Jakob Stämpfli, Horst Günter, Rudolf Piernay, and László Polgár. At the moment, he works with Margreet Honig in Amsterdam and Lucerne. René has got a Master’s degree in musicology and history of the University of Fribourg. He was given the main four Swiss vocal scholarships and won prizes at the International Johannes Brahms Competition in Pörtschach (A) 2001 and at the Joseph Suder Song Competition in Nuremberg 2002.

René Perler worked with conductors like William Christie, Martin Haselböck, Andrew Parrott, Howard Griffiths, and Michel Corboz and was invited e.g. by the Festivals Folles Journées de Nantes, Festa da Música Lisboa, Festival of Flanders, Tage Alter Musik Regensburg, Wien wohltemperiert, Feste Musicali per San Rocco (Venice), and Romanische Nacht Cologne. He is fascinated by the world of Lieder; he has been a welcome guest as a recitalist at Freunde des Liedes Zürich, Festival du Lied de Fribourg, and Murten classics. Swiss state radios DRS 2 and Espace 2 broadcasted three of his Lied programs.

On stage, René Perler was Don Bartolo, Herr Reich (Nicolai’s Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor), Tirésias (Igor Stravinsky’s Oedipe Roi), Colline, and Polypheme (Georg Frideric Handel’s Acis & Galatea).
